Stephen Anthony Smith, also known as Stephen A. was born in 14th October, 1967 in New York. He is a popular TV personality as well as talk show host. He is also a former sports journalist.

In his childhood, he is a basketball player. He has received the basketball scholarship for Winston Salem State University. It was a black university which was situated in South Carolina. In college time, he wrote an article in university newspaper arguing his coach, Clarence Gaines, should retire from his job due to his poor health conditions.

He began his career from Winston Salem Journal. In 1994, he got the position as a writer in Philadelphia Inquirer. He broke the relationship with it in 2008 as he was demoted to general assignment reporter.
