An American actor, teacher, screenwriter as well as director William Hall Macy, Jr. was born on March 13, 1950 in Miami, Florida, United States. His parents are William Hall Macy, Jr. and Lois. Macy is best known for her role in Homicide, Jurassic Park III, Focus, Fargo and Trust Me to name few.

Macy attended Allegany High School in Cumberland, Maryland. Later, he studied veterinary medicine at Bethany College. Then he got enrolled at Goddard College where he became involved in theatre. He also performed in ensemble productions of The Three Penny Opera, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Macy graduated from Goddard in 1971. After that he founded St. Nicholas Theater Company along with David Mamet.

Macy did his film debut by appearing in the Foolin' Around in 1980. In the same year, he also appeared as Critic in Somewhere in Time. His voice was also featured in the television movie The Boy Who Loved Trolls. Later on in 1991, Macy appeared in Homicide as Tim Sullivan. He was also nominated for Independent Spirit Awards for Best Supporting Male for his role in Homicide. Later in 1995, he appeared in six movies including Murder in the First, Oleanna, Dead on Sight, tall Tale, Mr. Holland's Opus and Evolver. For his role as John in movie Oleanna, he became nominated for Independent Spirit Awards for Best Male Lead in year 1995. In the following year, he starred as Jerry Lundegaard in movie Fargo. For this role he has been nominated for many awards like Academy Awards for Best Supporting actor and Florida Film Critics Circle Awards for Best Supporting actor and won Independent Spirit Awards Best Male Lead.

Macy's other blockbuster movies includes Jurassic Park III, Focus, The Cooler, Door to Door, Seabiscuit and Bobby etc. He has won awards like Florida Film Critics Circle Awards      for Florida Film Critics Circle Award for Best Cast and Online Film Critics Society Awards for Best Cast for State and Main. For his role in Door to Door, he won Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead actor in a Miniseries or a Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special as well as Satellite Awards for Best actor – Miniseries or Television Film. Recently he was seen in Trust Me and also his voice was featured in The Wind Rises and Ernest & Celestine.

Regarding his television career, he has appeared in series including The Awakening Land, Law & Order, ER, Sports Night, The Simpsons, Curious George, and Shameless etc. He has appeared in 31 episodes of ER, 6 episodes of Sports Night, 28 episodes of Curious George, and 46 episodes of Shameless. He has won Prism Awards for Best Performance in a Comedy Series in year 2012 for Shameless. There were rumors about his leaving shameless but later it proved to be wrong.
