Kirsten was graduated from the University of Maryland and later on attended Georgetown University Law School for a year and a half. Although raised as an Episcopalian, then she became an Atheist.
Powers started her career as a Democratic Party operative in 1992. First, she operated with the Clinton-Gore president transition team followed by an appointment as Deputy Assistant U.S Trade Representative for public affairs in the Clinton administration and was the Vice-President for International Communications at America Online.
She worked as a press secretary, communication consultant, and Democratic Party Consultant. She is talented in writing blogs and journals. Currently, she is working as a columnist for USA Today, Newsweek and Daily Beast and Political analyst for Fox News Channel.
Powers articles can be found in the USA today, Elle, The New York Observer, Salon and Wall Street Journal. This classy lady can be seen in shows like Freedom Watch, Fox News Sunday and The O'Reilly Factor.
Powers are also an active member of organizations like Human Rights First and National Council for Research on Women (NCRW).She also supported Obama Health Care Reform, which she believes can make the citizens healthy.
She is also among the one who gave equal emphasis to gay people and considered same-sex marriage as legal. She stands as an active opposition to "don't ask, don't tell policy", Iraq war and the death penalty.
In 2012, she was battling in Twitter regarding John McCain being racist. Kristen also believes that a citizen of a country has the right to choose their government themselves, and thus the journalist says, this right should not be influenced by others.
Supporting Human rights for all, Kristen also opposes late-term abortion and was involved in Twitter campaign regarding late-term abortion. She also wrote against a late-term abortion doctor, Kermit Gosnell.
Kristen Powers wrote:
“You don't have to oppose abortion rights to find late-term abortion abhorrent or to find the Gosnell trial eminently newsworthy. This is not about being "pro-choice" or "pro-life." It's about fundamental human rights. The deafening silence of too much of the media, once a force for justice in America, is a disgrace.”
Regarding her personal life, she previously had an affair with former Congressman Anthony Weiner in 2002.But, this relationship didn't get stronger. Weiner's "sociopathic lying", misogyny, and predatory behavior were the reason for this break-up.
Powers called this behavior as "classic sexual harassment" and described him as "predator trolling the Internet for women." Immediately, she called for his resignation from Congress.
After some time she married to Dr. Marty Makar, a surgeon and a professor of public health at John Hopkins University, in 2010.Makar is also a television medical commentator. He has written many books of medicine.
This couple seems to have a stronger bond though there was a lot of rumors about their divorce before. But they do not have any children yet. Kirsten's husband is a Coptic Egyptian. This may be the reason behind Kristen's concern in Egypt for Islamists. Rumors were also spread that Kirsten married Makar because he could get a green card.
We can say that despite facing so many controversies, this charismatic journalist's work has been appraised by many people. Her fan following is also significant. Her relation with her husband is blessed.
I also wrote a column defending him and defended him in my book on speech policing.
